I have been holding on to this secret for a little while now!  I've really wanted to share this great resource, but I wanted to make sure it was really good before sharing it with everyone...and it is :)

It's another great way to learn KJV Bible Verses!  In our home, we like to learn our verses as a family.  If you've read my other posts, you know we write our weekly verse up on the door and memorize it as a family (no one can exit the door without reciting the verse).  Even our 17 month old gets involved!

Well, I have tried many resources to get the whole family involved, and have been disappointed.  Some are not good quality books, dvds, flash cards...etc.  Some advertise KJV, but not all verses are, or there are many typos.  It's really difficult to find good, quality products out there that fit my particular family's needs.

But this next product does just that...and best of all, there is something for ALL ages and for the entire family!  Did I mention that you can win a copy?

Introducing:      SCRIPTURE TALK...

Please note that I am in no way affiliated with Scripture Talk, nor have I been paid to give this review.  This is my honest opinion and I am giving it because I enjoy sharing with others products that have encouraged our family.  I hope they will encourage yours as well).  Scripture Talk so graciously has given me this copy that I can now forward on to you!  I had purchased my copy when it first came out and decided then and there I had to share this Dvd with my readers.  They were looking for a way to get the word out about their new DVD and lovingly sent me this copy to giveaway to one of you!

This is a great DVD that teaches, not just Bible verses, but Bible passages through: repetition, illustration, teaching, and hand motions!  Each verse is broken down and other children demonstrate hand motions.  Later, the verse is explained so the child can not only memorize it, but apply it to their daily life.

There will be times when the verses are written upon the screen as they are being memorized.  This is great to make sure the verse is being said correctly, and also helping younger readers learn to associate the written word with the spoken word.

During the lesson, Kate and the others do a WONDERFUL job at keeping your child's attention and using illustrations to help your child understand what they are saying.  Their personalities are infectious and endearing!

All in all, your child (or yourself) will learn 79 verses of Scripture!

Each of the 10 passages on this DVD includes:
  • A group of children demonstrating the passage
  • Verse-by-verse teaching of the words and motions
  • An engaging lesson explaining the passage and how the children can apply it to their daily lives
Bible passages on this DVD:
  • Psalm 1
  • Matthew 7:24-27
  • Mark 12:28-34
  • Ephesians 4:25-32
  • Ephesians 6:10-18
  • James 1:2-8
  • Romans 8:31-39
  • Philippians 2:2-11
  • Philippians 4:4-9
  • 1 Corinthians 13
You can watch the trailer for the video here:

One of my great concerns with DVDS are keeping the attention of my children.  I know that since my children don't watch a lot of videos, they are more likely to watch anything rather than the average child.  However, I do believe this video will keep the attention of most children.  First of all, it is done by children...and kids love to watch other kids.  Secondly, there is something for all ages.  You may have to hit "repeat" on your DVD remote for a certain section, or go to certain chapters and select the scenes that keep your little one's attention.  For example, while my oldest child (just turned 3) loves to watch it all, my little one (17 month) will not watch the teaching scene entirely through yet.  Therefore, we might skip that part for her and just repeat the children doing the motions with the verses.  It's very versatile and you can do what fits your family's individual needs.

Conclusion:

I believe this DVD is a really great product for all Christians to have who have children or grandchildren in their homes.  I highly recommend it and I hope that you'll share Scripture Talk Ministries via Facebook and other forms of Social Media.  As moms, we really need to be sharing the things that are helping our children grow in the Lord.  We can't keep them to ourselves because we want our children to have other strong brothers and sisters in Christ to lean on as they grow older.

Even if you don't win this DVD, I hope you'll consider purchasing it.  Just know that your money is going to people who are helping to share the Gospel into homes and churches across the Country.  You may also want to give this as a gift (especially to those children who may not already be hearing the Word of God in their homes).

Now onto the giveaway!

This is a picture of my girls taken several months ago.

I have been putting off writing this post.  I actually don't like writing controversial topics, but I often write them because they're usually about topics that I once fell prey to:  thinking children are a burden, watching television, birth control, immodest dress...I could go on and on.  Thankfully, God has opened my eyes to these deceptions, and I am quite confident there will be more as I grow closer to God and see things that I try and justify now the way God sees it.  If you read my blog long enough, you will find posts about these issues and how God opened my eyes to my sin.  In most cases, I was just selfish and didn't want to see my sin, but there are a few to where I was just ignorant of the facts.  This is one of those situations.

Many of you know that I am very pro-life.  That is why I chose to have as many children as God wants me to have....whether it just be the two I have now or 10 more.  Even before I had accepted trusting God with opening and closing my womb, I got off of birth control after I found out that it killed a fertilized egg (since the Bible teaches life begins at conception)....I didn't want to have children at that point, at ALL.  But I am strongly against murder from conception, and I believe God is too.  Therefore, I left the birth control pill for good.

Well, a similar issue has come up, and in a place I would have never thought: my children's vaccinations.

I have always had my children vaccinated promptly.  My doctor even once reminded me that I didn't always have to bring my children in the day their wellness was due.  I can't help it.  I want to do what is best for my children.  I do not have the time, nor the smarts, to research about every single thing for my children.  Often, I have to trust the experts in some areas.

One of those fields I had chosen to do that was in the area of vaccinations.  Obviously, I did have some common sense on the issue.  Facts show that vaccinations (despite some documented severe risks to some children), do save lives.  History shows that if it weren't for vaccinations, we would likely have illnesses running rampant.  Despite serious risks to a small percentage of patients (that are at least documented by the drug companies), I felt like it would be an even greater risk to expose my children to potential illnesses that could take their lives.  I had always heard those arguments against vaccinations, but they seemed a little extreme to me.  I am all about doing things naturally and organically, and even though I only take a Tylenol about once a year, I don't think taking medicine every now and then will kill you.  I always looked at it as if one of my children must die...I would rather it to be from a vaccination that doctors told me that was safe rather than for my child to die from an illness that they contracted because I went against expert's orders.  I don't think I could live with that kind of guilt.

So are you kind of puzzled why my husband and I chose to stop vaccinating our children?  It's probably not what you think.  Basically, we found out that aborted fetal tissue is used to create many of these vaccinations.  I'm not going to get into all of the details about it.  You can do a quick engine search and see that this is true from both Christian and Non-Christian websites.  Trust me, I did a lot of research on this.  I didn't want it to be true.  I want my children to be protected from these illnesses, but not at the expense of an innocent child.  Oh sure, they claim that a baby would have been aborted anyways (as they supposedly choose the babies from those who were already going to have abortions).  But I don't want any part of those babies' blood upon my hands.  I don't want even their cell strain inside my children's arms.  It was just a no-brainer for my husband and me.

Now, I understand many Christian families will say that since we have no control over this issue that it's better that lives can be saved.  I am not judging other families' decisions.  That is not the purpose of this post.  Families have to decide what God would have them do for their children.  My purpose is to simply share our decision so that other families who have the same convictions as our family may be informed so they can make their decision with all of the facts.

My husband and I just feel as though that accepting the vaccinations against our personal convictions would be the same as us "saying" abortion is wrong, but condoning it with our actions.  That's how the devil works.  He knows that I may never go out and have an abortion, but he also knows that if put in a situation to where my children's lives could be at risk, it would be a tougher decision and I would probably try and justify it.  You see, the devil knows that killing a fertilized egg is the same as killing a 5 year old child.  He doesn't care that I won't go out and kill a 5 year old.  Age does not matter to him.  He doesn't care that I don't have the murder weapon in my hand, he just wants me to sit silent and ignore the fact that I could do something about it.

Take, for example the MMR shot (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella).  These shots used to be given individually.  But the drug company combined the shot.  Now, if you're giving your child their vaccinations, which are you going to choose?  Are you going to pick three shots or one?  Of course you'd pick one!  Who wants to make their children get three shots as opposed to one?!  So, eventually, they quit making the shots individually since they are no longer profitable.  You can now only get the MMR shot together.

Why does this matter?  Well it matters to our family because Measles and Mumps are made from animal tissue, but Rubella is made from a 3 month aborted baby.  So, if I want to protect my children in this Country from Measles and Mumps, I can't unless I go against my convictions.  What's frustrating is that there are moral ways to create these vaccines (some previously done in the U.S. and many done in other countries currently).

Here's a great link from Family Council on the matter of aborted fetal tissues and vaccines.

My husband and I are currently seeking alternatives for the vaccinations that contain cell strains from murdered babies.  But even if we never find it, we will trust God.

About 40,000 people die in car crashes every year in the United States alone.  That's not counting how many are injured.  Yet most every day, I put my children in the car and take that risk...all to go visit my grandparents, to go to church, to buy groceries.   We takes risks everyday.  Certainly, I don't want to take any risks with my children's health or lives that are unnecessary, but I just personally feel that how these vaccinations are made are wrong.  Until they change their ingredients, our family can't support certain vaccines.

I've spoken with my doctor and done a lot of research before making such a large decision....but the evidence is there.  I can't ignore it.

I don't believe we'll ever find a cure for these diseases.  Where did these diseases come from?  They came directly from our (mankind) sin.  They are a consequence of our sin.  If we were to find cures for all of these diseases, and never have consequences for our sin, there would be no reason to turn to God.  But since God is a loving and merciful God, He chastises us and does whatever it takes to get our attention.

I know that someone getting a disease (say an unborn baby, perhaps) doesn't always mean it is their direct sin.  It may be the sin of their mother.  However, there must always be a consequence for sin.

The world, and even professing Christians, spend so much money on trying to stay alive and healthy.  I believe in treating your body as a temple, but I also know that we will all die one day.  We all want to die at the ripe old age of 100.  No one wants to die young.  But what if it is God's will for you to die young?  What if He wants to use a terrible disease to bring others closer to Him?

I'm not saying it's wrong to go to the doctor and try and cure your sickness.  What I am saying is that if you spend your entire life trying to stay alive, but you never fully live out God's will for your life on a daily basis, you might as well be dead.

I welcome comments from those who do not agree with me.  However, it is important to respect each other's decision.  Even a month ago when I was pro-vaccinations, Mark and I always previously supported a parent's right to vaccinate or not.

Once again, my purpose in this post is not to stir up debate (unless it's healthy) or to divide Christians on this issue.  I just want to make sure that this information is out there.  It is up to you and your husband to pray and seek God on the issue.  May all decisions we make for our families be covered in prayer.

I will post a link to one of the sources I used in my research.  This source is a Christian family physician, and I like the way she put the information together the best.  You can easily see what vaccinations were made from aborted babies and which ones are not.

However, her information is no different from all of my other research.  The facts are the same no matter where you look.  The only difference in the articles I find are whether it is immoral or not.  I don't leave that up to the researchers or writers of these articles, I leave that up to the Spirit's conviction upon my heart and the Bible.  Just like the birth control issue...how the pill works is not debated...it's science.  But the debate is on whether a fertilized egg is a life or not (although it should not be a debate among Christians).  The same is true for vaccinations.  The facts are there.  It's simply an issue of whether you believe it is immoral to vaccinate your children with these ingredients or not.

Here is a copy of the PDF File you can download for more research:
http://www.epm.org/static/uploads/downloads/Vaccines_Using_Tissue_from_Aborted_Babies.pdf

Click here for a list of vaccine ingredients straight from the CDC's website.

Take note of Human Albumin and
WI-38 human diploid lung fibroblasts being used as well as other scary ingredients in your vaccines.  If you read the ingredient list and still take the shots, I respect your decisions.  But please, don't do as I did.  Always make informed decisions and know what it is you're are putting in your precious children's bodies.

I encourage you to write drug companies and let them know (whether you give your children the vaccines or not) that you want them to stop using innocent children's tissue for their vaccinations.

Knowing God's Word is vital nourishment for our spiritual well-being.  Not only must we know It, but we must hide God's Word in our hearts.  When the enemy comes in to devour, we must be ready to fight with the Word of God.

I have been a Christian since a child, but I must admit, I had never really learned Scripture.  Even in reading my Bible, I never made memorizing Scripture important.  The only time I learned Scripture is when It was in a song I heard often or I had to learn It for church.  If I were to make a guess, I would estimate that I only could quote 15-20 Bible verses off of the top of my head, on the spot, much of my Christian life.

During much of my life, despite trying to grow closer to God, I found discouragement and discontentment controlling my thoughts when things weren't going well.  I didn't have God's Word hid in my heart (Psalm 119:11), so I didn't have the encouragement of it to remind me of God's care for my life during any hard times.

As an adult, learning Scripture is not much different for me than learning It as a child.  I find it difficult to sit and read a verse to try and remember it.  Even if I do, it usually doesn't stick as long.

Now that we have children, we have learned over the years that learning Scripture needs to be apart of our everyday life.  Not only will this help us to remember it easier, but it will help us to USE it in our everyday lives.

So, I want to share with you the techniques my family uses for us to learn Scripture as a family.  We encourage you to do this as a family.  Mom and Dad can't both help the children if they don't both know the Bible verse the children are learning.  In the same sense, there is no confusion on everyone focusing on different verses.  You may use some of our ideas and you may not use any of them!  I just want to encourage you to begin learning God's Word as a family and hopefully you'll gleam ideas as well.

We have began learning a weekly Bible verse to learn as a family.  On Monday, I write our new Bible Verse on our kitchen door.  Here is this week's verse:

Before anyone can exit the door, we must read aloud the Bible Verse.  The more we say it, the easier it is to remember!  The more we go outside, the more we say it!  Of course, you don't have to have chalkboard paint and be ready to slather up your nice kitchen door.  A simple piece of tape and paper will do to put your Bible verse on.  Just find a spot that works for you.  You may decide to put the Bible verses over the snack cabinet, in your car where it must be said before you leave...wherever you decide, find a place that you use a lot so your verse will be said a lot!

I also take several times throughout the day to ask my child her Bible verse.  In doing this, she and I are both learning the verse.  At the beginning of the week, when she doesn't know the verse, I simply have her repeat each word after me.  As the week goes on, she gets better and better.  I then begin just helping her when she's stuck on what the next word is.  By the end of the week, she's got it down!

"Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble." 1 Peter 5:5

As a reward for each time she says her Bible verse (even if she's just repeating after me), she gets a treat.  It may be a piece of candy, getting a sticker, reading a new book, or blowing out a candle.  Find a few things that your child loves and mix it up (you don't want your child eating candy all day long) and certainly you want age appropriate rewards!

I usually remember to ask Araylah to say her Bible verse when she asks me for something.  If she's asking to color,  I say, "Sure!  While I'm getting out your colors, can you tell me your Bible verse?"  It's a great way for me to remember to ask her!
For our family, we primarily have chosen verses that will pertain to her.  Sometimes her verses are long, sometimes they are short.  I've been asked, "why don't you just have her say, 'Jesus wept'?"  Certainly that is a powerful and important verse in the Bible, but it's not a verse that my child can understand yet at her age or that I feel I can relate to her everyday life.  I want to try to only use verses that are relevant to her everyday life or that I feel I can explain on her level.  Otherwise, it's just for a show.  Learning other verses, as she learns more and more about Jesus, will come.  But Mark and I decided we just want to use verses that our children will presently understand.

I'll give you an example of this with another way we choose to learn Bible verses.  One of my main disciplines for my two year old is time-outs.  When she does something inappropriate, she is to go to the couch and sit quietly for 3 minutes.  I explain to her, her offense, report to her, her punishment, set the timer and go about my business.  When the timer goes off, I return to her.  I remind her of what she did and how it is not appropriate nor acceptable.  We then go to a chart I have on the wall (The If-Then Chart).  If she was being disobedient, we read Ephesians 6:1.  She would repeat it after me (as soon as she was old enough to repeat me).  I would then explain to her what the verse means and why it is important.  I would then ask for an apology, hug, and kiss.  If anyone else was wronged, she would make it right with that person as well.

So you see, we are saying Scripture throughout the day.  When you say it so much, it is BOUND to be memorized.  We don't do anything real creative when it comes to memorizing it, we just say it aloud a lot!

"Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord." Leviticus 19:30

***There are some resources that we do use to help us along.  For example, we love to sing in the car, but we only want to sing songs that are edifying.  We love to listen to our CDS from Bible Truth Music.  They are cute songs of children singing Scripture (KJV).  Music has a way of making verses easier to remember.  It has even benefited me!  Now when I'm humming a catchy tune in my head, it's God's Word!  It is such a blessing!
You can also get FREE CDS and/or downloads of passages being sang by the beautiful Tirzah Joy by emailing her through her website here. It's called Sing The KJV. You can also visit her on YouTube here.

***Another resource we use is in the form of a DVD!  Moore Family Films produces wonderful movies for the entire family!  One of their great films is the A-B-C Say It With Me Bible Memory Verses.  It's a wonderful DVD filled with children saying a Bible verse for every letter of the alphabet.  My two year old learned all of those verses in two weeks!  You can read my full review of this product and watch the trailer here.

*** If you're looking for another DVD resource, you may want to check out Scripture Talk!  This DVD offers a way to memorize, not just KJV Bible Verses, but passages.  My just turned two year old learned 1 Corinthians 13 in just 9 days (way faster than me)!  They put the Bible verses to motions and keep it very entertaining for children (and adults) of all ages!  You can read my full review here!

***If you're looking for something while you travel or tangible, this next resource is wonderful!  I am so thankful for Christian moms who share their work for FREE to help the rest of us!  You can get an ABC printable with KJV Bible Verses for your little one for FREE!  Just hop on over to Andrea Hamilton's blog to print them!

***To Memorize Psalm 23, we found a KJV children's book.  We would read it many nights before we went to bed.  We didn't push it, but eventually, it became natural and memorized.  When we felt she had most of it memorized, we made it her weekly Bible Verse for that week (all 6 verses):

Unfortunately, these books are hard to come by.  So, I made a cheesy notebook with the Passage we  learned next (The Lord's Prayer):

Obviously, I would have made the pictures horizontally, but my printer is giving me fits right now.  Luckily, my three year old doesn't mind one bit!

One thing I encourage you to do is to plan ahead the Bible verses that will be memorized.  I just took the same day out of every week and typed it out.  Then I wrote verses alongside each day that I wanted Araylah to memorize.  It's great to have a printout of the verse you want for a few reasons:
 1) You don't have to go looking hurriedly for a verse when you realize you haven't picked one out for this week and
 2) You can be confident that you are giving your children verses that are relevant to them because you took the time ahead to plan it out.
Print it out and put it up high so you can see it.  If your children are having issues being obedient in church, you can move up Leviticus 19:30 on your list.  Don't be afraid to change the schedule based upon your children's current needs.

To my shame, my two year old probably knows more Bible verses now than I did most of my Christian life.  I feel confident she knows more than many adults sitting in pews every Sunday as well.  I don't say this in pride for her.  I say it because it pleases my heart knowing that when she is facing a difficult time, Scripture will be in her memory to comfort and guide her.  I didn't have that in often cases growing up.  The Word of God is our friend.  It is our help.  But if we don't study It and cherish It, It will just collect dust on a shelf.  I encourage you to begin instilling the Word of God into your home, regardless of the age of your children.

*****If your child is old enough for writing, you might also consider this next resource.  What better way is there for your child to practice their penmanship than with writing Scriptures?  Not only is their handwriting improving, but so is their vocabulary, as well as memorizing God's Word!  I stumbled upon this resource, and though I haven't used it yet, it is King James Scripture and it appears to be a great book if you're wanting some a little more formal than just telling your child to copy "Romans Chapter 12."  You can view the book here.*****

The newest way we are learning Bible verses as a family is during Family Bible Time!  We each read four verses during this time of verses we have already learned.  This way, we don't forget them!  I found this method here.  But you can watch the video below!  It has been great for our family!

My goal in this post is to encourage you.  We are a normal family and we have been blessed by the countless other families who are teaching their children the Word of God!  Your child can do it!  Work at their speed and on their level, but don't underestimate how much they can learn.  Young minds are like sponges.  If you're like me, your little one will be correcting you when you miss one little tiny word in 1 Corinthians 13!

What are some ways you choose to teach your children Bible verses?  I'd love to hear what works in your home!  It might help other families, including my own, to have some more ways to memorize God's Word.

UPDATE: (This post contains affiliate links.  I wrote this post PRIOR to becoming an affiliate with Moore Family Films, so my thoughts below are 100% mine without the thought of self-gain.  It's just when they came out with an affiliate program, I thought, "why not join?"  I can earn a small amount off of any of your orders to go toward helping me to save for a home.  So, the opinions below are mine, but I do make a small commission off of any orders through my links, so I hope you'll use one of my links if you decide to make an order).

I am so excited about this product review! It just arrived in the mail today and I can't wait to share it! Have you been looking for a way to teach your children or your Sunday School Class the Scriptures? Well, this DVD does just that and I'm writing this product review to show you why I believe this is better than the others I have seen or tried! This DVD is for babies up to adults. We can ALL enjoy and benefit from this! This is a FAMILY FILM! I wish I had found this sooner! (It would also make wonderful gifts and you can know that you're giving a gift of a child learning Scripture).

Here is a trailer of the video so you can get a better idea:

* First of all, it is in King James Version. I realize that may not be important to some, but for those of you whom it may affect, like my family, you know how rare that is to find!

*Secondly, the entire DVD is based around Christian family values. You wouldn't think I would have to state the obvious in a "Christian" DVD, but I have purchased many Bible DVDS for kids where I have found immodest dress or the taking of the Lord's name in vain! Maybe there are more like this DVD out there, but this is the FIRST KJV Bible Memory Verse DVD that I have found that reflects our personal family values. I am so happy that even the extras are dressed appropriately and that everything that is done in the ENTIRE video is to glorify God...and it's obvious! They even have a part at the end to show a person how to be saved! I just grinned from ear to ear when I saw that!  By this video showing my children Scriptures for Salvation repeatedly and with our family ministering to one another, my children may be saved as a result!  That gives me goosebumps!

*Thirdly, my child loves it! We watched the trailer online and she wanted to watch it over and over. When the DVD came in two days later (yes, fast shipping too) and she saw the cover, she immediately read it with pride! She wanted it opened right away (and she didn't even realize there was more than just the letter "A", "B","H", "M", and "N"! It just goes to show you that our children get excited about the things WE get excited about.  If we want them to get excited about Mickey Mouse, we can introduce it to them and be excited...they will too.  In the same sense, we can introduce them to Bible Scripture with love and excitement.  We can PRAISE them for getting their verses right, and they will love it too (children WANT please their parents).  Why not give them a video that  will teach them Scripture that can help them throughout their entire life?!
The video shows animals and children, both of which my children love! The DVD goes through the alphabet, so they're also reinforcing that as well.

*Another thing I love about this DVD is that it's long! You get your money's worth! Each letter does not just say a verse, but it has a short "story" explaining each verse.  Personally, I love how they show the difference in "Honoring" and "Obeying" your parents.  They did a really great job explaining each verse.

*How the DVD is put together makes it another benefit!  Words are put up on the screen so we can be certain that we are saying the verse correctly. But when it is repeated again after explaining the verse through a short story, the words do not show up. This is great because it ensures you are memorizing the verse and not just reading it. This was a very smart thing to do!

*I love how you think the kids are going to "get their sister" or "backtalk their mom." I mean, that's what you would normally see in a movie. Instead they remember the verse that was just said and they display the biblical thing to do. This is important because my children are not waiting for the end of a video to get to the moral of the story. They are seeing appropriate behavior immediately! This is so important to me. I don't want to have to show my children inappropriate behavior and correct it. I want to show them the right way. There will be PLENTY of opportunities for them to see how NOT to behave. I don't have to show them.

*IT'S NOT CHEESY!  I'll be honest, this one isn't that important to me, but to some of you it may be.  The video is VERY high quality and the acting is wonderful!  You would think you had bought this DVD from any major company.  It is very well comprised.

I am just a mom who wants godly resources for my children in training them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.  When I find something like that, due to its rarity, I feel like I need to share it right away!

Let me say, I do NOT believe this video is to replace the time we are to spend training our children in the Lord.  I still believe that good 'ole fashioned teaching from the parents is the way to go.  But sometimes, we want a family movie (which we rarely have due to finding any that meet our personal family values).  It could be that mom just had a baby and could really use a 30 minute naptime on the couch.  Maybe your parents are babysitting your children and you want to ensure they are only watching wholesome and edifying television.  Whatever your reason, you can know that your children are not watching something sinful...they are not even watching something wholesome, but without value....you can know they are watching something that is glorifying to God!

Decided to start teaching Araylah to count to 100, so I had been looking for a good video.  I like this one because it's not flashy, nor does it have a rock beat to the music.  It's simple and effective.  I just thought I'd share it!
